Pricey editor,
As a retired hearth officer, I’m absolutely conscious of the necessity to follow for any operational scenario that will come up; together with the rescue of wildlife. It’s fantastic to see that firefighters in Spain (CBN Picture of the week- Jun 10-16) are conscious of this want and ‘the way to rescue animals within the wild’ and I applaud them for this.
Nonetheless, they may study valuable little, interacting with captive bottlenose dolphins in Benidorm’s Mundomar waterpark. These are captive cetaceans, dwelling in an unnatural atmosphere, performing unnatural ‘tips’ for a misinformed, paying viewers.
These of us who reside within the Costa Blanca are privileged to have the ability to see bottlenose dolphins, dwelling as nature supposed, within the Mediterranean.
These fantastic marine animals have a house vary of between 200-300 kilometres; a far cry from the relative, minuscule unnatural atmosphere of aquatic zoos, reminiscent of Mundomar.
I can communicate from some expertise, as a former director of an animal charity, which campaigned towards using cetaceans (and different animals) within the leisure trade.
Cetaceans (dolphins, whales, and so forth.) usually show stereotypic behaviour in captive environments, which is an indication of stress at not with the ability to show regular behaviours.
Dolphins have a excessive stage of social abilities, cognition and feelings and might sense what others are pondering. Their mind capability is second solely to people, surpassing even that of the good apes.
Preserving them in captivity is merciless and advantages nobody, other than the zoo trade coffers.
