Vingegaard blows the race apart as Pogacar cracks

Jonas Vingegaard snatched the yellow jersey from Tadej Pogacar on stage 11 of the Tour de France on Wednesday after the Jumbo-Visma crew blew the Tour de France aside.

Final 12 months’s runner-up Vingegaard attacked 4.9 kilometres from the end to drop the defending champion, who had been attacked relentlessly by the Dane’s Jumbo-Visma crew.

Jumbo-Visma crew took full cost of the stage on the Galibier, isolating Pogacar (UAE Workforce Emirates) till he lastly cracked on the ultimate climb of the day to Col du Granon, a punishing 11.3-kilometre climb at a mean gradient of 9.2 per cent.

From there the floodgates opened, with rider after rider distancing the yellow jersey.

Nairo Quintana (Arkea–Samsic) was second throughout the road after Vingegaard, with Romain Bardet (Workforce DSM) third and Geraint Thomas (Ineos) fourth.

At day’s finish, Vingegaard led Bardet by 2 min 16 sec and third-placed Pogacar by 2 min 22 sec.
