Sunrise: World reacts to host David Koch’s shocking on-air blunder

An harmless joke about whingeing husbands backfired badly for Dawn host David Koch on Friday after a visitor revealed her partner was dying from most cancers.

Koch, 66, and co-anchor Natalie Barr have been interviewing a contest winner, Christine Linn, who had bagged herself a Caribbean cruise.

When Barr requested her who can be becoming a member of her on the journey, Mrs Linn responded, ‘I’ll take my husband.’ This prompted Koch to giggle and say: ‘Oh, why?’

‘As a result of he has terminal most cancers,’ was her deadpan reply.

Koch appeared visibly shocked and easily muttered: ‘Oh…’

The embarrassing second was later posted on Twitter and shortly went viral, gaining traction in Britain and america.

Earlier this week, Koch sparked rumours he could quickly retire as he celebrated 20 years on the helm of Channel Seven’s breakfast present.

He turned visibly emotional on Tuesday as he watched a montage of highlights from his tenure on this system, in addition to a number of video messages from celeb visitors like Delta Goodrem.

He later spoke of his ‘unimaginable’ time on Dawn whereas his co-hosts Barr, Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew supplied their congratulations.

‘It has been one of many nice joys of my life. It has been unimaginable,’ he started, combating again tears.

‘You may’t stand up winter, summer time, the whole thing with out doing it with folks that you simply love dearly.

In an Instagram submit on Tuesday, the finance journalist thanked the Dawn staff.

‘Thanks for having me @sunriseon7 for the final 20 years,’ he wrote, earlier than itemizing his ’20 most memorable moments (in no explicit order)’.
