PHIL READ has died aged 83, his household have confirmed.
The seven-time motorbike GP world champion died peacefully in his sleep yesterday.
In a press release posted on-line, the Learn household paid tribute to the much-beloved former racer.
It learn: “It’s with unbelievable disappointment that the Learn household experiences the passing of Phil Learn MBE whereas peacefully asleep on the morning of October sixth, 2022, at his residence in Canterbury, England.
“Phil is finest identified for profitable Yamaha’s first world championship title in 1964 with 4 extra Yamaha-mounted titles together with one fought as a privateer, plus two premier class 500cc world championships in 1973 and 1974 for the Italian MV Agusta marque.
“Usually a controversial and outspoken determine, his prolific racing profession included 52 FIM Grand Prix wins and eight wins on the iconic Isle of Man TT Races. In 2002 he was granted the standing of “MotoGP Legend” by Dorna.
