Parliament to convene tomorrow for the process of appointing a new president


Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that Parliament will convene tomorrow (16) to begin the constitutional course of to nominate a brand new President.

Accordingly, he mentioned that each one members of parliament are requested to take part within the parliamentary assembly tomorrow.

When a President resigns, the Speaker should summon the Parliament inside three days and notify the identical and name for nominations to elect a brand new President by way of the Parliament.

Acceptance of nominations needs to be accomplished inside two days and voting in Parliament needs to be held inside two days of acceptance of nominations.
