Navy seizes smuggled inventory of Kendu Leaves in Kalpitiya

Sri Lanka Navy seized about 1680kg of Kendu Leaves, suspected to be trying to smuggle by sea routes, throughout a particular operation mounted within the seaside space of Keerimundalama in Kalpitiya on the night time of 01st July 2022.

With a purpose to suppress the unlawful actions stemming from the ocean routes, the Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting common operations within the coastal areas of the island. In the same operation carried out by the SLNS Vijaya within the Northwestern Naval Command with the help of Kalpitiya Police the restoration was made in Keerimundalama seaside space on 01st July. As such, the raiding celebration handle to grab about 1680kg of Kendu Leaves, used for tobacco merchandise. The smuggled inventory was present in 64 sacks and it’s suspected that the consignment hidden in a fishing hut, has been stashed there to be distributed later.

The seized inventory of Kendu Leaves on this operation was handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for onward authorized proceedings.
