EU affairs ministers on Tuesday commented on the European Parliament’s proposals on reforming EU elections, together with formalising the so-called spitzenkandidat course of — selecting the following EU Fee president via the election –, decreasing the voting age to 16 and having transnational lists and a standard voting day. A number of ministers criticised the proposals arguing that they intrude with nationwide electoral techniques, and don’t bear in mind sufficiently the nationwide specificities.
