“Given the acute climate situations and to make sure the safety of workers, volunteers, and guests, Snowflake Kingdom in Gatineau will open at midday and the launch of the Winterlude Nationwide Ice-Carving Championship on Sparks Avenue … will probably be at 10 a.m.,” a report on the Winterlude web site stated Saturday.

It is the first time the festival has had a female pair competing together. Female carvers have taken part in the event in the past, but this was a first for a team.
