Canada imposes new sanctions on Haitian politicians

Canada on Friday imposed sanctions on three Haitian politicians,
together with a former president of the nation’s Chamber of Deputies,
with Ottawa accusing them of aiding gang leaders and laundering
their illicit earnings, based on a press release, Pattern experiences citing Reuters.

“These people are utilizing their standing as present or earlier
public workplace holders to guard and allow the unlawful actions
of armed prison gangs, together with via cash laundering and
different acts of corruption,” the assertion mentioned.

“Right now’s sanctions are supposed to cease the stream of illicit
funds and weapons and to weaken and disable Haiti’s prison
gangs,” mentioned the assertion, issued by the international ministry.

The sanctions will freeze any property held in Canada by Senator
Ronny Célestin, Former Senator Hervé Fourcand, and Former President
of the Chamber of Deputies Gary Bodeau, a international ministry

of President Jovenel Moise in 2021, and Prime Minister Ariel Henry
